Academy Happenings – 1/6/17

As we move into the second full week of January, here’s what’s going on…

Appropriate Attire… A school uniform confirms your attendance at Divine Wisdom and is a symbol of unity within the school community. It is important that each student take pride in his/her appearance by wearing his/her complete uniform. The 2016-2017 Family Handbook outlines the uniform policy. During the cold weather, students may wear uniform sweaters or fleeces. Sneakers/athletic shoes are worn only on physical education days. If a student wears any type of boots to school, they are to change into their school shoes before entering their classroom.

It’s also time for heavier coats, hats, gloves/mittens, and scarves! Please dress your child(ren) in layers for school, as the weather, though a bit unpredictable as of late, is very chilly. We will continue to have lunchtime recess as often as possible during the colder months. Any child not properly attired with a winter coat will not be allowed to go outside. Children need fresh air and exercise, however our goal is to keep everyone healthy…

Confirmation Scheduled… The Parish communities of Saint Anastasia and Saint Robert Bellarmine have received the dates for the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation.

  • St. Robert Bellarmine Parish will be welcoming Bishop Octavio Cisneros, on Saturday, 29 April 2017, 11am.
  • St. Anastasia Parish will be welcoming Bishop Raymond Chappetto, on Saturday, 20 May 2017, at 11am and 3pm.

Coffee and Conversation… Please join the Academy’s leadership team on Thursday morning, 12 January 2017, at 9:30am in Father Smith Hall, Douglaston campus; and 7pm in the school hall, Bayside campus, to discuss any issues or topics of concern.

Just a Reminder: Important Dates… Divine Wisdom will be closed for students on Friday, 13 January 2017, and the day will be devoted to faculty professional study. Our hard-working, dedicated faculty benefit greatly from opportunities to reinvigorate and grow professionally. This professional gathering will take place at St. Mel Catholic Academy. All of the Catholic schools/academies from Northeast Queens will be joining together to study. Monday, 16 January 2017, the Academy will also be closed to celebrate the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

State of the Academy Meeting… The Board of Directors will be holding its annual State of the Academy meeting. This meeting will take place on Thursday, 19 January 2017, 7pm in Father Smith Hall, Douglaston campus.
