Academy Happenings 2/10/2017

Grade 8 Graduation Meeting… There is a mandatory Grade 8 Family meeting, scheduled for Thursday evening, 16 February 2017, at 7:00pm, in Father Smith Hall, Douglaston campus. This meeting will be to discuss graduation activities. We are requesting a family representative for each member of the 8th grade class.

February Winter Recess 2017… We have five school days before we leave for winter recess. Divine Wisdom will be closed from Monday 20 February, through Friday, 24 February, with students returning on Monday, 27 February 2017. During this week, you and your children should consider taking advantage of new opportunities to work and learn together….

As you embark on this holiday break, I would like to offer a few suggestions. Be sure that your child continues to read each day during the week. Maybe make a visit to the local public library or a bookstore and help your child find that “just right book.” If the weather permits, take a walk with your child. How about encouraging your child to develop a new interest or hobby? The break is an opportunity to relax and recharge, ready to gear up for the last stretch of the school year….

Maintaining Open Lines of Communication… The administration and faculty work tirelessly to keep families informed of news, activities and changes in the calendar. Please take the time to read these communications to avoid surprises. Notes, class letters and weekly email blasts are some of the ways Divine Wisdom is keeping members of the community in the loop. Please go onto the Academy’s website, checkout your child’s class page, open the attachments included in email blasts, there’s a lot going on…

Child Lures Prevention Program… During the month of February, as part of your child’s Religion class, the students will receive instruction in the Child Prevention Lures Program. In order to better promote Child Safety Awareness, supported and mandated by the Diocese of Brooklyn faculty will be delivering appropriate and effective instruction in the awareness and avoidance of situations that could pose harm to children and young people by potential predators in our society. Enclosed with this correspondence is an excerpt from the Think First and Stay Safe parent guide addressing tips for safeguarding your children. Additional resource materials could also be found at www.childluresprevention.com.

Inclement Weather… As we saw on Wednesday, there will be times when the Academy must alter the schedule due to inclement weather, or other emergencies. Provisions have been established to maintain open lines of communication with Divine Wisdom families.

Once it has been determined, that Divine Wisdom will be closed, or having a change in the schedule, an e-mail blast alerting all families, faculty and staff will be sent out. The Academy will post its school changing status on the school’s website, www.dwcaonline.org, as well.

Candy Drive… Divine Wisdom is going into the fourth week of the World’s Finest Chocolate sale. The sale will run through Monday, 27 February 2017. Sell a box of chocolate and return the money by 13 February, and receive a free dress down coupon.
