Michael A. LaForgia has been involved in education for his entire professional career, beginning his seventh year as the Supervising Principal of Divine Wisdom Catholic Academy, and 29 years in the New York City public school system. Mr. LaForgia started his career as a social studies teacher in the Louis Armstrong Middle School/IS 227, and moved on to a series of administrative positions including Assistant Principal, Principal, Director of Secondary Schools in Community School District Two, Deputy Superintendent, Manhattan High School Superintendency, Local Instructional Superintendent in Region 9, culminating with the position of Network Leader, serving schools in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx.
As the Supervising Principal of Divine Wisdom since the summer of 2010, Mr. LaForgia has provided strong leadership, developing a strong academic program to educate and prepare students for higher learning, while always remaining committed to fostering and promoting the Academy’s Catholic identity.
Under Mr. LaForgia’s leadership, the Academy has grown from a single campus school serving 235 students, with one class per grade, to a two campus community serving 670 students at the Bayside campus at Saint Robert Bellarmine Parish, and the Douglaston campus at Saint Anastasia Parish.
Mr. LaForgia and his wife, live in Whitestone with their three children, and are members of St. Mel Parish community.
