Weekly Letter for March 6th

March 6, 2017

Dear Families,

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a nice weekend with your families.

Reading – Our American Symbols unit is coming to an end this week.  The students are completing their informational text writing about the symbols we have studied over these past several weeks.  Our next unit will be Geography.  The students will learn about the different types of landforms that can be found in the United States and they will also learn map skills.

Spelling/Phonics – This week we will be working on two more ways to make the long I sound: ie and igh.  The class will get plenty of practice with these words during Word Work and Literacy Activity.  Please spend time each night reviewing these words.  There will be formal assessment on Friday.

Math – This week, we are finishing Chapter 7 Comparing Numbers.  The final lesson deals with the students using mental math to give a number that is 10 more and 10 less than a given number.  For example, 23 is 10 less than 33 and 43 is 10 more than 33.  We will review all the lessons from the chapter and a study guide will be sent home on Wednesday.  The assessment will be given on Friday, March 10th.

 Have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Van Buskirk
