Getting to Know You Sheet

Handwashing Steps

Reading together as a family every night is an important event in a young child’s life. It helps to build listening skills, comprehension, vocabulary, and pure enjoyment for reading. What a wonderful gift that you as a parent can give your child!

Scholastic book orders are given out monthly in your child’s folder. This allows your child to pick and order books that are of interest to them. By buying Scholastic books you are enabling your child the powerful to build up their literacy skills. Each book order grants bonus points for our classroom. This allows us to order free books or materials through Scholastic for the classroom in order to benefit your child’s education. When ordering a book order from Scholastic.com, please use the code HRF22. This tells Scholastic that your order is for our class. Thank you in advance for any generous orders that will help our children and classroom grow!

Weekly Letter 9.30

This week we read the book Pinkalicious by Victoria and Elizabeth Kann. We discussed how each of us are unique and special. The children had an opportunity to share their family engagement of how they are special and what their likes and dislikes are.

The children got to practice their feelings by continuing to use their words more when experiencing situations throughout the day.

We also got to take a look at ourselves and saw that we all are all unique! We have unique qualities, such as different color eyes, skin, and hair, some kids wear glasses, and our names are all different!

The children had an opportunity to continue making some fun Fall projects in the Art center using paint and dabbers!

Next week we will be starting our new focus on Self. The children will have an opportunity to further explore their uniqueness and how we are all similar and different.

This past week we have continued to practice our routines in the classroom. We have been continuing discussions on how to be safe in our school (classroom, outside play, fire drills, stairs, etc).

We read The Feelings Book by Todd Parr. This book focused on different types of feelings.  The children had an opportunity to act out different feelings and have also been encouraged to talk about them, especially when something upsets them, such as not sharing toys.  We have been learning about how our actions can make others feel.

We are also beginning to introduce our class mood meter/feelings chart.  This is an area where the children can put their picture on the emotion that they are feeling.  They are welcome to move that picture to another feeling as the day progresses.

Next week we will explore our families and the season of Fall! We will be using paint for the first time to make apple prints.

Weekly Newsletter 9.16

We had a great first week of school! Over the first few days we have watched students learn and actively participate in our daily routines.

We read a book about feelings and discussed our feelings during our first few days of school, as well as some of our special skills and interests!

Students are slowly being introduced to our learning centers. This week in the Art Center, students learned how to use a glue stick while creating free art with collage materials including paper scraps and foam pieces.

As a whole group we brainstormed ideas for classroom rules that will help keep us safe at school! Our rules included being kind, listening to friends and teachers, and keeping our bodies calm inside the classroom. We wrote a list and all agreed to practice the rules so we can have a fun and successful year in 3K!

Next week we will continue to learn our daily routines. We will also be practicing on talking about our feelings throughout the school day.
