Getting to Know You Sheet
Reading together as a family every night is an important event in a young child’s life. It helps to build listening skills, comprehension, vocabulary, and pure enjoyment for reading. What a wonderful gift that you as a parent can give your child!
Scholastic book orders are given out monthly in your child’s folder. This allows your child to pick and order books that are of interest to them. By buying Scholastic books you are enabling your child the powerful to build up their literacy skills. Each book order grants bonus points for our classroom. This allows us to order free books or materials through Scholastic for the classroom in order to benefit your child’s education. When ordering a book order from Scholastic.com, please use the code HRF22. This tells Scholastic that your order is for our class. Thank you in advance for any generous orders that will help our children and classroom grow!

May 30- No School (Memorial Day)
June 8- No School (Professional Development)
For the months of April, May, and June, we will be focusing on the theme of Our Impact. April will be focused on Care. May will be focused on Grow. June will be focused on Change. The children will have an opportunity to explore how things, including themselves grow and change through a period of time. They will explore how we can care for things around us, such as babies, plants, and each other. They will be able to demonstrate this with various activities that will promote how to care for something. They will also explore and research things that grow and change around them.
Weekly Letter 5.20
This week we started our unit on Grow by focusing on how we have grown.
We read a variety of books about growing in regards to how people grow. The children had an opportunity to discuss how they have grown, such as feed themselves, make good choices, dress themselves, and doing things independently.
In the Art Center, the children had an opportunity to draw how they have grown since they were a baby by updating their self portraits. They included features such as hair, teeth, and hair accessories that they didn’t have as a baby.
The children have also been practicing hard for their End of the Year Celebration as another way to show how they have grown. In class, we have been practicing a lot for how Pre-K is and what is expected of Pre-K. The children were encouraged to show that they have grown by doing more independent things in the classroom like they would be doing in Pre-K.
Next week we will be continuing our unit on Grow by focusing on things that grow.

Weekly Letter 5.13.docx
This week we finished our unit on Caring by focusing on how we can care for the world.
We read a variety of books about how we can care for the world. We brainstormed various ways that we can care for the world, such as recycle things and materials, planting and growing plants, using a water thermos, and don’t litter.
In the Art Center, the children had an opportunity to show how they can care for the world by being encouraged to use only recycled paper and materials to complete their projects this week.
The children practiced caring for the world by putting paper scraps in the recycled basket instead of throwing it away, continued to bring in recycled materials for projects, and helped to pick up litter off of the floor in the classroom when others did not pick it.
Next week we will be starting our new unit on Grow by focusing on how we have grown both throughout the school year, as well as touching base once more, since we were a baby.

Weekly Letter 5.6
This week we continued our unit on Caring by focusing on how we can care for ourselves. We brainstormed various ways that we can show care for ourselves, such as clean up our own mess, dress ourselves, and cleaning ourselves when we get dirty.
We read a variety of books about how we can care for ourselves. The children had an opportunity to compare and contrast how caring for themselves is the same and/or different from when they were babies.
In the Art Center, the children had an opportunity to update their self portraits. They also drew pictures on how they were the same and/or different from when they were a baby.
The children practiced doing self care things throughout the day, such as washing hands without reminders, unpacking their school bags, putting their rest time materials away by themselves, and trying to open their own meal time things by themselves.
Next week we will be continuing our unit on Care by focusing on how we can care for the world.

This week we started our unit on Caring by focusing on how we can care for others. We brainstormed various ways that we can show care for others, such as share, play with them, help them, and so on. We also spoke about how animals care for their babies.
We read a variety of books about baby animals, as well as caring for others in general. The children had an opportunity to compare and contrast how that is the same and/or different from human babies.
In the Art Center, the children had an opportunity to create baby animals of their choosing using a variety of materials provided. They also drew portraits on how they can care for others, as well as dictate their responses.
The children practiced using manners to care for others throughout the day.
Next week we will be continuing our unit on Care by focusing on how we can care for ourselves.
