Weekly Newsletter 6.17

This week we continued our unit on Change by focusing on things that change.

We read a variety of books about things that change, such as the weather, as well as reviewed what happens when the seasons change and the change from night to day.

In the Art Center, the children had an opportunity to continue drawing pictures of how seasons, the weather, or the day changes. They dictated their drawings and explained what changes happen during these events.

We also got to see how a head of romaine lettuce can change when left in a cup of water. The children noticed that the lettuce started to grow!

Next week we will be finish our unit on Change, as well as celebrate our End of the Year Celebration.

Weekly Newsletter 6.10

This week we started our new unit on Change by focusing on how things change.

We read a variety of books about how things change, such as what happens when the seasons change, as well the change of night and day. We also spoke about how the weather can change around us.

In the Art Center, the children had an opportunity to draw pictures of how seasons, the weather, or the day changes. They dictated their drawings and explained what changes happen during these events.

We also got to see how our caterpillars came out of their cocoons and became butterflies.

Next week we will be continuing our unit on Change by focusing on things that change.

Weekly Letter 6.3

This week we finished our unit on Grow by focusing on how things grow.

We read a variety of books that spoke about how things, such as plants and animals grow.

In the Science Center, the children had an opportunity to plant a variety of seeds.  The children drew pictures of what they thought would happen to their seed. They also got to observe what really was happening.

The children have also been practicing real hard for their End of the Year Celebration. They are excited to perform these songs for their families at the end of the year! They are also working hard to show that they have grown this year and are ready to go to Pre-K next year!

Next week we will be starting our unit on Change by focusing on how things change.

Newsletter (5.27)

Weekly Letter 5.27

This week we continued our unit on Grow by focusing on things that grow.

We read a variety of books about things that grow, including people, plants, animals, as well as caterpeillars.

In the Science Center, the children had an opportunity to put pumpkin seeds on a wet paper towel and seal it in a ziplock bag. The children made predictions of what they thought would happen, as well as observe what really was happening to the seed.

The children have also been observing caterpillars in the classroom to see how they grow. They got to observe that the caterpillars hung themselves from the top of the feeding cup that they were in and made a cocoon to start transforming into butterflies. Once the butterflies come, the children will get to observe what butterflies eat and eventually release them by our garden.

Next week we will be continuing our unit on Grow by focusing on how things grow.

Weekly Letter 5.20

This week we started our unit on Grow by focusing on how we have grown.

We read a variety of books about growing in regards to how people grow. The children had an opportunity to discuss how they have grown, such as feed themselves, make good choices, dress themselves, and doing things independently.

In the Art Center, the children had an opportunity to draw how they have grown since they were a baby by updating their self portraits. They included features such as hair, teeth, and hair accessories that they didn’t have as a baby.

The children have also been practicing hard for their End of the Year Celebration as another way to show how they have grown. In class, we have been practicing a lot for how Pre-K is and what is expected of Pre-K. The children were encouraged to show that they have grown by doing more independent things in the classroom like they would be doing in Pre-K.

Next week we will be continuing our unit on Grow by focusing on things that grow.

This week we finished our unit on Caring by focusing on how we can care for the world.

We read a variety of books about how we can care for the world. We brainstormed various ways that we can care for the world, such as recycle things and materials, planting and growing plants, using a water thermos, and don’t litter.

In the Art Center, the children had an opportunity to show how they can care for the world by being encouraged to use only recycled paper and materials to complete their projects this week.

The children practiced caring for the world by putting paper scraps in the recycled basket instead of throwing it away, continued to bring in recycled materials for projects, and helped to pick up litter off of the floor in the classroom when others did not pick it.

Next week we will be starting our new unit on Grow by focusing on how we have grown both throughout the school year, as well as touching base once more, since we were a baby.

Newsletter (5.6)

Weekly Letter 5.6

This week we continued our unit on Caring by focusing on how we can care for ourselves. We brainstormed various ways that we can show care for ourselves, such as clean up our own mess, dress ourselves, and cleaning ourselves when we get dirty.

We read a variety of books about how we can care for ourselves. The children had an opportunity to compare and contrast how caring for themselves is the same and/or different from when they were babies.

In the Art Center, the children had an opportunity to update their self portraits. They also drew pictures on how they were the same and/or different from when they were a baby.

The children practiced doing self care things throughout the day, such as washing hands without reminders, unpacking their school bags, putting their rest time materials away by themselves, and trying to open their own meal time things by themselves.

Next week we will be continuing our unit on Care by focusing on how we can care for the world.

Weekly Newsletter 4.29

This week we started our unit on Caring by focusing on how we can care for others. We brainstormed various ways that we can show care for others, such as share, play with them, help them, and so on. We also spoke about how animals care for their babies.

We read a variety of books about baby animals, as well as caring for others in general. The children had an opportunity to compare and contrast how that is the same and/or different from human babies.

In the Art Center, the children had an opportunity to create baby animals of their choosing using a variety of materials provided. They also drew portraits on how they can care for others, as well as dictate their responses.

The children practiced using manners to care for others throughout the day.

Next week we will be continuing our unit on Care by focusing on how we can care for ourselves.

Newsletter (4.8)

Weekly Letter 4.8

This week we finished our unit on Moving by focusing on how we move throughout the city. We reviewed types of vehicles that allow us to move around, as well as other ways, such as walking, riding horses, and other animals.

We continued to read a variety of books about moving to guide our discussion on how we can move throughout the city. Some vocabulary that was used were fast, slow, transportation, bridges, subway, and so on.

In the Art Center, the children had an opportunity to continue creating types of transportation to show how they would move through the city by utilizing 3D materials, drawings, and a variety of collage materials.

The children  also had an opportunity to act out moving through the city during a movement activity.

Next week we will be starting our new unit on Care by focusing on how we can care or show care to others.

Newsletter (4.1)

Weekly Letter 4.1

This week we continued our unit on Moving by focusing on how our bodies move. We spoke about different ways that we could move our bodies, such as jumping, skipping, hopping, running.

We also focused this week on the season of Spring. We read a variety of books about Spring and what makes Spring unique. Some things that were said was that baby animals are born and plants start to grow.

In the Art Center, the children had an opportunity to create a Spring art. Some of the types of art that the children chose to make are bird’s nests, flowers, and Spring paintings.

The children had an opportunity to act out different types of body movement during our movement session.

Next week we will be finishing our unit on Moving by investigating how we move through the city.
