Weekly Letter May 17th

I hope you all had a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend! Please continue reading to learn what class 1-2 will be doing this week…

Reading & Writing: This week we will continue with our plant and animal adaptations unit. This morning, students looked at various plants that make adaptations to survive in their environment. For example, a cactus has a thick stem so that it can hold water longer in the dry desert. A Venus fly trap can snatch insects and digest them to get nutrients. We will also take a closer look at the life cycle of a plant!

Phonics: Our spelling focus this week is “oi” and “oy”. You can find these sounds in words like coin and boy. Students are starting to realize that if I hear the “oy/oi” sound at the end of the word I use “oy” and if I hear it in the middle of the word I use the letters “oi”. There will be a spelling test on Friday.

Math: This week we will finish chapter 11. Study guides will go home on Tuesday. There will be a test on Thursday.  Please review with your child all the strategies for subtraction.
